[LIFE ON CAMPUS]
The Oberstown chaplain is a vital member of the multidisciplinary care team on campus. The role takes a holistic view of the social and spiritual needs of the young people and how this impacts on their mental health and physical wellbeing.
The chaplain works with young people individually and in group settings at school, during afterschool activities and at weekends as required. Participation is entirely voluntary. Working with each young person's beliefs and attitudes, the chaplain looks to focus on hope, change and positive outcomes. As with all interactions at Oberstown, the service builds trusting relationships that stand to the young people during their time in Oberstown and for the future.
Recent examples of initiatives led by the chaplain include:
- Onsite visits from inspirational speakers sharing their stories of overcoming adversity and achieving positive change in their lives.
- Retreat events focusing on wellbeing and mindfulness, featuring guest experts introducing young people and staff to ideas and techniques for personal growth.
- Charity bake-offs.
- Christmas gift boxes of young people's work to give to their families
