David Byrne

David Byrne is a Principal Officer in the Children Detention Schools Unit, Department of Children, Disability and Equality (DCDE). He was appointed by the Minister in 2025. He is an experienced Government Policy Analyst with specific experience relating to governance of the State’s child protection services, governance of financial institutions, business and consumer finance, international sporting events and transport infrastructure. David currently has responsibility at Principal Officer level for policy relating to and governance of Oberstown Children Detention Campus including the provision of safe and secure custody for children, and this includes representation on the Board of Management of Oberstown.
